Courses

Haugaard's International Fiddle School offers class-based fiddle tuition at four different ability levels as well as a singing class, an ensemble class, and a dancing class.

The singing class, the ensemble class and the dancing class will each have one dedicated tutor for the duration of the fiddle school.

The Fiddle Classes
The intermediate, advanced and super-advanced fiddle classes will be taught, in rotation, by each of the four fiddle tutors. The basic fiddle class will have a dedicated tutor for the duration of the week as well as having lessons with the other three fiddle tutors.

Please note that the classes are limited to 25 persons and a class maybe split in to two in the case of a high number of applicants.

Basic

For fiddlers who have been playing for a few years and who can play with three fingers in the first position. You should be able to learn simple tunes by ear and be able to play in the keys of G, D and A major.

Intermediate

For amateur fiddlers who have been playing for a few or more years and who are able to play with all four fingers in the first position.  You should be familiar with the third position and be able to play tunes in the major keys of G, D, A, C and Bb as well as E minor, A minor and D minor.  You should be able to learn tunes by ear and also have at least a basic ability to read music.

Advanced

For technically skilled and musical fiddlers who enjoy exploring the world of traditional music and who like to challenge and develop themselves as musicians. This class is also suitable for classically-trained players who are skilled in aspects other than learning by ear.

Super-advanced

For highly skilled fiddlers who have well-developed technical skills and who can pick up difficult tunes easily. For music academy students or (semi-)professional musicians.

Ensemble

Mainly for backing instruments such as bass instruments, piano, harp, percussion, guitar and cello. The ensemble class will work with backing for the fiddle class’s repertoire as well as independent material.

The instrumentation of the ensemble class can vary, but the number of pianists, and bass players will be limited.

The Ensemble course is not a beginners course and you need to be at an experienced level on your instrument.

Vocal

If you love to sing, if you want to develop your voice – and your joy of singing – we welcome you in the vocal class. The vocal class works both with the music and with singing technique, finding the power of the body, using different “keys” and “shades” of our natural voice, singing folk songs in Danish, English and German, exploring “diddling” traditions and the special ornamentations of the traditional vocal musik. Also there will be a lot of harmony singing and opportunities to sing solo if you wish. Only from the age of 12.
